“Zozo” by Joseph Fares screened in Geneva January 07, 2010
After the success of the film “Zozo” in Lebanese theaters, Joseph Fares’
masterpiece arrives to Geneva for a unique screening scheduled for
January 26, 2010 at 8:30pm.
This event is organized by “Think Lebanon”, a Swiss nonprofit
organization, founded by four volunteers in 2007. “Think Lebanon”
supports Lebanese charities by organizing artistic and cultural
events to raise funds. The movie takes place in 1987. Zozo, a young
man who grew up in Beirut is living a quiet life with his family
and friends despite the civil war. On day, a tragedy separates
him from his parents. He finds himself alone, heading for a
new life with the only hope of getting to Sweden to meet his
grandparents who left the country because of the war.
After the comedies “Jalla! Jalla!” and “Kops” acclaimed by the
international audience and distributed in more than 20 countries,
“Zozo” is Joseph Fares’s first drama. Bringing together a number
of renowned Lebanese actors such as Antoinette Turk, Elias Gergi,
Carmen Lebbos… Zozo won the Best Movie Award at the Ghent
Flanders International Film Festival in 2005, as well as the
Amnesty International Award at the Giffoni Film Festival in 2006.
Profits of the screening organized by Think Lebanon will be donated
in full to the organization “Give a Child a Toy” for the St Jude
Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon.
